GESON / AIR-COOLED SCROLL CHILLER

MULTI-SCROLL STAGING · PACKAGED WATER SIDE · OUTDOOR HEAT REJECTION

Air-cooled scroll chillers stage the duty in compact circuits.

A scroll chiller can use one or more refrigeration circuits to match a defined chilled-fluid load. The selection combines compressor staging, air-cooled heat rejection, water-side package scope, ambient conditions and the project’s control requirement.

SCROLL / DEFINITION

Smaller circuits.
A coordinated chilled-fluid system.

The evaporator transfers heat from the chilled water or process fluid to refrigerant. Scroll compressors compress the refrigerant, and air-cooled condenser coils and fans reject heat to the outdoor air.

The exact number of circuits, water-side components, capacity steps and available operating range are model specific. Those items belong in the selected package schedule.

STAGING WORKBENCH / LOAD PROFILE

Use the operating profile to choose the circuit arrangement.

The source page presents compact air-cooled scroll systems and modular configurations. The staged view below keeps that logic while avoiding a generic performance promise for every model.

A

Base circuit

Maintains the initial cooling duty when the system is enabled.

B

Add capacity

Stages in when the selected control setpoint and load require another scroll circuit.

C

Peak support

Adds selected capacity during higher demand, subject to the model, controls and operating envelope.

PACKAGE BOUNDARY / FOUR CHECKS

Define what is inside the package and what remains at site.

Air-cooled scroll chillers can be supplied as compact systems with identified water-side accessories. Confirm the final boundary, rather than assuming pump, tank, valves or field controls are included.

01

Scroll circuits

One or more scroll compressors and refrigeration circuits are selected around the required duty, redundancy and control arrangement.

02

Air condenser

Finned coils and fans reject heat to outdoor air. The design must include ambient conditions, clearance, coil exposure and cleaning access.

03

Water side

Evaporator, pump, buffer tank and hydraulic accessories may be part of a packaged scope or supplied separately; verify the final schedule.

04

Controls

Temperature control, flow proof, pump logic, alarms, BMS interfaces and staging are confirmed for the selected package.

SYSTEM PATHS / PROJECT FIT

Start from the duty, not only the compressor label.

Compact, modular and heat-pump configurations have different scope and operating requirements. The source page identifies these as adjacent routes for projects with different cooling and heating needs.

01

Compact process package

For defined process loads where a packaged unit, water-side accessories and simple external piping meet the duty.

02

Staged multi-scroll route

For a load profile that benefits from multiple circuits and controlled capacity steps, with the exact staging based on the selected model.

03

Air-source heat-pump route

For projects requiring a stated heating as well as cooling operating mode, subject to source conditions and the chosen equipment envelope.

SELECTION BRIEF / PROJECT INPUTS

Give the load, water conditions and ambient envelope together.

For a scroll chiller proposal, send the cooling duty, entering/leaving fluid temperatures, flow, glycol data where applicable, outdoor design conditions, power supply, operating profile and package scope.

AIR-COOLED SCROLL FAQ

Questions before the package is selected.

01What is an air-cooled scroll chiller?+

It is a vapor-compression chiller that uses one or more scroll compressors, cools a water or process-fluid circuit through an evaporator and rejects heat directly to outdoor air through finned coils and fans.

02Does an air-cooled scroll chiller need a cooling tower?+

No. The air-cooled condenser rejects heat directly to outdoor air, so it does not require a cooling tower or condenser-water loop. The chilled-fluid side still needs correctly sized flow, piping, insulation and protection.

03How do scroll and screw chillers differ?+

Scroll packages commonly use multiple smaller compressors and circuit staging; screw packages use one or more rotary screw compressors with their own unloading or speed-control arrangements. Compare selected models at the same duty and operating conditions.

04Can a scroll chiller include a pump and tank?+

A package may include or be supplied with pump, buffer tank and hydraulic accessories when they are specified. The written schedule should identify factory-supplied and site-supplied items, flow, head and total system volume requirements.

05What is required for selection?+

Provide the application, cooling load, entering/leaving fluid temperatures, flow, fluid or glycol type, maximum/minimum ambient, operating profile, power supply, installation constraints and destination.
